Pasabag Valley, also known as Monk's Valley, is famous for its unique mushroom-shaped rock formations, which differ from the fairy chimneys of Love Valley and Gorkundere. These rocks have a darker and more defined "top hat."
The Experience:
While Pasabag Valley is busier due to easier access and the unique formations, it offers a fascinating history. The hermit Saint Simeon is said to have lived here, moving to the top of a mushroom-shaped tuff chimney to escape attention after rumors spread that he performed miracles. Visitors can climb inside a rock formation with three mushroom heads to see the monk’s quarters and a chapel dedicated to Saint Simeon.
Exploration Tips:
- Mushroom Heads: Climb inside the unique rock formation to explore the hermit’s living quarters and chapel.
- Viewpoint: At the opposite end of the site from the entrance, a small path leads up the hill to a viewpoint overlooking the mushroom formations. This spot offers excellent photo opportunities, especially in the morning light.
Best Time to Visit:
- Anytime: The valley can be visited at any time, but the viewpoint mentioned above has the best lighting for photos in the morning.
