Cappadocia's fairy chimneys are the region's most iconic natural formations. These tall, cone‑shaped pillars topped with harder rock caps look like something from a storybook.
What Are Fairy Chimneys?
Fairy chimneys are tall rock columns formed when a layer of hard basalt sits on top of softer volcanic ash. Over time, the softer rock erodes away and leaves dramatic pillars capped by harder stone.
